Today I wanted to share with you a ‘See Savannah’ find. A local gem of a shop – The Paris Market. ‘See Savannah’ posts take a moment to give you a glimpse of our fair southern city, introducing locals and visitors alike to the best shopping, restaurants and travel tips (full disclaimer – it also allows me the excuse to frequent local shops and restaurants!).
One of the best parts of living in a new city is exploring local gems. And Savannah has quite a few of them. Since moving to the south I’ve been introduced to shrimp and grits, ATV’s, monogrammed anything, liquor drinks (we call them mixed drinks back home) and a whole lotta y’all and yes mam. I love this area and the people here. Southern hospitality sits just right with me. I love that people here are friendly, courteous and that life is just a little slower paced.
I’m lucky in that my office is located right in the middle of the downtown historic district, walking distance to many shops, cafes and restaurants. That means that daily I need to resist temptation to pop into a shop or indulge in an espresso. Once in a great while though, I do enjoy getting out of the office and taking in some of the local sights. And The Paris Market has to be on my top 5 list of places to wander into. You have to see this place to really appreciate its charm.
Paris Market is located downtown on Broughton Street in Savannah, a tourist area filled with both local shops and name brands. The unique exterior of the Paris Market sets the tone for the treasures that a shopper will find inside. Half boutique store, part vintage market, with a dash of Paris cafe – the Paris Market in Savannah, GA is a wonderful place to shop with friends or settle in for a tasty baked good (many from Back in the Day Bakery – another Savannah gem!).
Passing the cafe and bakery you are greeted with an explosion of unique items. From pretty gifts like Rifle Paper products and Matt and Nat vegan handbags, to vintage one-of-a-kind finds from around the world (think chandeliers from Cairo, candles from England and handmade soap from Marseille) – you honestly never know what you will see at Paris Market when you walk inside.
There are different treasures to be explored every time you stop by. Aside from the goods themselves, I’m always amazed by the curated style of the shop. Each time you walk in you’ll find new table settings decked out from top to bottom and vignettes styled with a detailed eye. I love walking downstairs to take a peak at the gorgeous home items they have in collection. You can always find unique candles (love that they carry local vendors like Produce Candles from Charleston, SC), table linens, cook books and herbs. If you dig you can even find vintage items like printing press letters and salvaged door handles.
If you are in Savannah in the near future popping into Paris Market is a must! Located on Broughton Street in one of the great ‘wander and shop’ areas of the city. Visit the upstairs and lower level to dig for buried treasure, and stay long enough for a latte and a macaroon (try the lavender – my favorite!).
The Paris Market is located on 36 West Broughton Street, Savannah GA.
