5 Inexpensive Date Ideas

5 Inexpensive Date Ideas | Rose Tinted HomeIf you can’t tell by my posts, I’ve got that mid-February cabin fever thing bad, real bad. Last week I wrote a post about 50 Things to Do When You Are Bored. This week? It’s all about Inexpensive Date Ideas. Just because Valentine’s Day has passed doesn’t mean you have to give up on romance. And romance doesn’t always have to break the bank.

The cop and I are starting to think seriously about saving money. We try to cut back where we can. I’ve been getting better about couponing, buying what is on sale, eating out less, shopping less. The works. We don’t want to drastically change our lifestyle but we are trying to be more cognizant of where and how we are spending our money.

That being said, I’ve realized with us cutting back on spending we have been cutting back on date night. Most weekends you’ll find us cooking at home, curled up on the couch watching TV. While I love a weekend in once in a while, I don’t want our relationship to suffer just because we are being more mindful spenders! So I sat down and did a little research on fun but budget friendly date ideas.5 Inexpensive Date Ideas | Rose Tinted Home5 Inexpensive Date Ideas | Rose Tinted HomeThis past Sunday it was beautiful weather in Savannah and Hilton Head. A sunny day in the high 60s after a week of record lows in Georgia. The cop and I took full advantage by taking Riley for a bike ride on a Hilton Head beach! Up and down on the coast about 4 or 5 miles each way (Riley was completely pooped after). We rode to Coligny Circle, where we grabbed a casual lunch (we actually used a buy one get one coupon!) and walked around the shops. The perfect budget-friendly warm-weather date.

Now I know that many of you live up north where you can’t even think of riding a bike at this time of year (I believe it’s -2 in Buffalo today). So my roundup of 5 Inexpensive Date Ideas is both budget friendly and February friendly. I hope you feel inspired to break out of your rut this week!

5 Inexpensive Date Ideas

Local Parks and Museums

Savannah is an ideal location to take advantage of local parks and historic museums. The only problem is, playing tourist in this town can add up quickly. So I took some time to dig up deals for locals and Savannah residents. Some of our local museums have free weekends (for example, first weekend of every month at the Jepson Center for the Arts is free for Bank of America cardholders) or discounted family days.

Small Movie Theaters

Many towns have locally owned theaters that play old movies for cheap. In Savannah we a blessed to have two – the Lucas Theatre is one of them. The cop and I will scope out what is playing for the month and sometimes make a trip to see our favorite classics. Not only are the movies cheap ($2-$5 per person depending on the show) but popcorn is only $2, you get free refills on a $2 soda and they even serve beer and wine for $3 or $4. All in all – money well saved for a full night out.

Cooking Class

Check out groupon or local papers for deals on cooking classes in your area. Often times the price of the class is around what you would pay for a dinner out – and while you are cooking in the class you usually eat the meals. Win win! Some cooking classes I’ve been to also allow you to bring your own bottle of wine in. A true date night experience.

Picnic in the Park

We are blessed in Savannah that we have reasonably warm weather throughout the year (though it can get cold here in January and February). If you live in a warmer climate? Take advantage and plan a picnic in your local park! Complete with a checked blanket, thermos full of hot chocolate or warm cider and pressed sandwiches for two. Live somewhere cold? Plan a picnic on your living room floor. One of my favorite ways to mix it up during winter (when cabin fever begins to set in) is to move out all of the furniture, throw a blanket in the middle of the floor and have a picnic right there in your living room. Blazing fire to create ambiance is an added bonus.

Game Night

Whether you plan a game night with just the two of you or a group of your favorite couples, game nights are an inexpensive way to have a night full of laughs. My favorite games for two are scrabble (the cop always beats me but I continue to try), . Group games? We love Catchphrase, Gestures, and Ellen’s Heads Up App (Have you downloaded it? Hysterical).

Whether it’s with that special someone in your life or your best friend – I hope you have loads of fun this week on your inexpensive date night this week!

  1. I love these ideas. Especially seeking out small movie theaters. We are planning a yoga date this Friday; should be interesting…my husband has never done yoga!

    1. Ha! I love that idea! I’m not sure I could convince the cop to try yoga – how did you manage it?

      I hope y’all have fun!
